STRICTLY FORBIDDEN
Shelley Bradley
Zebra Books
September 2002
A PASSION MORE POWERFUL THAN PROPRIETY
Miss Kira Melbourne is anything but a proper English rose. Her exotic beauty, courtesy of her foreign mother, has marked her as an outsider, and her ghastly reputation as a woman of loose virtue has only added to that status. The victim of a devious viscount's horrible lies, Kira has the chance to redeem herself and become a member of polite society as the fiancée of a respected country clergyman. She'll finally have a place to belong...even if it's in the tepid arms of a man she doesn't love.
Gavin Daggett, Duke of Cropthorne, isn't about to let his naive country cousin marry a scandalous woman like Kira Melbourne. The solution is a simple one: Gavin will seduce the vixen and prove her unworthiness, thereby releasing his cousin from any obligation. But spending time with Kira is like awakening to a world of color and beauty, and it stirs the fiery desires Gavin has fought to suppress his entire life. Caught in his own dangerous game, sharing forbidden pleasure with Kira, Gavin knows that the price of loving her is high—and yet it is one that he will willingly pay...with every beat of his heart.

Cissy - Welcome everyone to our chat with Shelley Bradley! Shelley's chatting tonight about her newest release, STRICTLY FORBIDDEN. We'll be on protocol this evening, so if you have questions for Shelley, just type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
Lea - Hi all
O -
Lea - ?
BadBarb - ok I have my snacks
Cissy - Shelley, before we go on to Q&A can we get you to tell us about STRICTLY FORBIDDEN?
O - hey you have t share Barb
BadBarb - ?
BadBarb - Do I have to behave Shelly?
ShelleyB - Sure thing. Here's a little blurb: Born of mixed heritage and now steeped in scandal, Kira Melbourne is desperate enough to wed a gentle clergyman she does not love to gain the acceptance she needs. Haunted by a scarred family legacy and stunned by his cousin’s disreputable choice of a bride, Gavin Daggett, the Duke of Cropthorne, vows he will not abide the vicious gossip Kira’s association with his family will bring. Gavin plots to prove Kira unworthy and stop the marriage by seducing her-until love demands he listen to his heart and claim the exotic beauty for himself.
BadBarb - O, I have sharing issues
ShelleyB - Behave? Gee, I have a 5 year old, so I'm not really used to anyone doing that
O - That sounds good
BadBarb - ok thanks
ShelleyB - O, I had a great time writing it. I think I learned something from both Gavin and Kira.
Sara - STRICTLY FORBIDDEN is good, O. I think you will like it.
Cissy - sounds wonderful, Shelley
Cissy - O has the first question (Lea, BadBarb in line)
shima - ?
BadBarb - Im sorry, I forgot to say hi to Lea
ShelleyB - Thanks, Sara!
Sara - and you can try it at http://shelleybradley.com/forbiddenexcerpt.html
O - I loved "One Wicked Night" how did that story come about?
Sara - a little taste so to speak
Lea - that is ok Barb but i am not the leav you think
shima - Do you learn something different from all your characters??
BadBarb - I know, but I dont want to seem rude
ShelleyB - I was driving one day and heard a song on the radio I hadn't heard in a long time. Within 5 minutes, I had the whole plot in my head!
O - WHat song?
O -
ShelleyB - Shima, usually. But this was a different lesson. Gavin struggled with tolerance, even as I think many of us did in the aftermath of 9/11, when I was writing this book. Kira, I think, taught me the dangers of listening to your heart too much.
BadBarb - - from 152.163.189.104 on 9/15 at 9:04pm EST
Cissy - Lea has the next question (BadBarb, Shima, O in line)
Helena - yeah what song
ShelleyB - What song? It was a song by the girl band Heart. I don't remember the title. Sorry!
Lea - thanks, your story sounds really go is this a historical and from what time and place does this take place
Lea - all I want to do is make love to you?
BadBarb - sorry screen whited out on me, Im baacck
ShelleyB - It is an historical, set in 1830's England. It's one of my favorite periods!
shima - Shelley those are big issues. Is it easy to work big issues into personal stories?
Lea - was I close
ShelleyB - Lea, yes! That's the song.
Sara - uh oh, Shelley, now we are all going to think of all the HEART songs we remember!
Cissy - lol, yup - I'm running through Heart songs in my head as we speak
Lea - I remember that song about the woman having the affair
ShelleyB - Shima, for me, yes. I tend to have people learning big life lessons in my books.
Lea - my next guess was barricidua but thst be a bit rough lol
Ann -
Sara - uh, I love that one, Lea -- barricuda (or however it is spelled)
Cissy - BadBarb has the next question (Shima, O, Ann in line)
Lea - tells you how old I am
ShelleyB - Maybe, I'll try that one next. Seriously, I get a lot of inspiration from music. Strictly Forbidden was inspired by Sting's song Desert Rose.
shima - ?
O - Get the Bruce Sprinsteen new album Rising it is good
shima - Can you remember your thought process, from the song lyrics to your plot (you may have guessed, I like to write too)
Cissy - shima, please hold your questions until I call on you
shima - sorry I broke in line
ShelleyB - These are two phases for me. I plot first--extensively--then I write. I tried doing both at once and found it much harder. I wrote His Stolen Bride that way, but it took me much longer.
Lea - - from 64.12.96.201 on 9/15 at 9:11pm EST
Lea - I boot booted
Cissy - Barb, your question?
BadBarbh - I got booted can I get back in line?
BadBarbh - thanks
Lea - I see gremlins are after you too barb
Sara - we wait so patiently on you, Barb
BadBarbh - Shelley, did you have a hard time with your editor accepting a mixed race heroine in a historical?
Cissy - see how nice we are?
Lea - - from 64.12.96.201 on 9/15 at 9:14pm EST
BadBarbh - thanks, I got booted
ShelleyB - Not at all. In fact, Kira is half Persian, and I actually turned in this idea before 9/11. After, I called her and asked if she thought it would be a problem. She still stood behind the idea. I was really relieved, as this was central to me.
BadBarbh - - from 152.163.189.104 on 9/15 at 9:14pm EST
Lea - dagn germlins
BadBarbh -
BadBarbh - oh no //shock I lost another marble
Lea - you too barb?
Cissy - Shima has the next question (O, Ann, Shima in line)
shima - Thanks, Cissy. Shelley what other than songs have inspired you? BadBarb has timed out.
Lea - did O get booted
O - i am here
Lea - hi mary
Lea - watch out for germlins
bryony - Hi Mary
Ann - What did you mean by Kira having taught you the dangers of listening to your heart too much?
Lea - - from 64.12.96.201 on 9/15 at 9:18pm EST
Lea -
ShelleyB - I'm musically schizophrenic, so I get inspiration from all over. Strictly Seduction was inspired in part by a song called Marco Polo by Lorenna McKennitt. I've been inspired by Alabama's Why Lady Why. There's a song on the Message in a Bottle soundtrack I listened to a lot when I wrote His Reble Bride.
Lea - this website is evil
Ann - I'm sorry!! I had that sitting and waiting to ask when it was my turn, and the room "stole" it when it updated! I'm sorry!
Cissy - ooh, Lorenna McKennitt's wonderful
Cissy - I don't know if the site, Lea - the rest of us aren't being bounced
ShelleyB - Ann, Kira has a pattern, as some women do, of listening to their heart and ignoring the logic of their head. She reminded me that balance is a good thing.
Lea - well something is out there, pesky gremlins
mary f - Take 2 Hello everyone!
ShelleyB - Bummer, Lea!
ShelleyB - Hi, Mary!
bryony - wb Mary
Cissy - Hi mary Welcome to our chat with Shelley Bradley! Shelley's chatting tonight about her newest release, STRICTLY FORBIDDEN. We'll
Ann - OK, that makes sense. Thanks Shelley. (sorry about cutting in line - reall I didn't do it on purpose)
Lea - yeah they lurk in here just aske mel jackson
Sara - uh huh, Ann
Lea - gremlins after you too mary
O - Ann
mary f - You Bet Leas they seem to be my best of friends lately !
ShelleyB - O, now you definitely don't get to wear a halo !
Cissy - O has the next question (Shima in line)
shima - ?
bryony - Just think of yourself as being extra special, Lea ... not everyone gets bounced like you do ...
Lea - lol
O - Where do you live?
Lea - cute ry real cute
shima - Shelley, since you plot extensively, does that mean your characters don't spring surprises on you?
Cissy - you could just rename yourself gremlinbait like Melanie Jackson does
ShelleyB - I'm in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I've lived here for 13 years.
Cissy - Shima has the next question (Shima in line)
Sara - yup, sorry O, she lives in Texas //shock
Sara - //shocked
Sara - :-0
Lea - right cissy
Cissy - poor O
O - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Lea - //stress
Sara - yes, and she is a member of the tea group too! BadBarbh has timed out.
ShelleyB - Shima, they do spring surprises on me sometimes but not so major that I can't incorporate them. I usually know them pretty well before I start the book. Some are more unpredictable than others. Kieran from His Rebel Bride comes to mind.
Lea - //zombie
Sara - she is a real sweety, O
JoannaW - I gotta scoot, but I enjoyed hearing your chat, Shelley! Good luck with the book!
JoannaW - - from 67.250.102.76 on 9/15 at 9:26pm EST
ShelleyB - Sara, don't most of the famous and beautiful live in TX ?
O -
Sara - definitely, Shelley! the best writers too
Cissy - There and Alabama, Shelley
O - no all the beautifull and famous live in Rhode Island
Helena - oh brother!!!
Cissy - Shima has the next question (O in line) Mary f has timed out.
shima - Thanks, Shelley answered it
Cissy - sorry, I thought you lined up for 2 questions
Cissy - O has the next question (no one in line)
SBC_VIXIN_06 - hi
O - What else inspired you besides Songs
Sara - GWEN!!!
Cissy - Hi Gwen!! Welcome to our chat with Shelley Bradley! Shelley's chatting tonight about her newest release, STRICTLY FORBIDDEN. We'll be on protocol this evening, so if you have questions for Shelley, just type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
mary f - Hello Gwen
Lea - Sometimes it funner to chat wiith out protcal
ShelleyB - Hi, Gwen!
Lea - hi Gwen
Helena -
SBC_VIXIN_06 - i had a moment away from work
ShelleyB - O, sometimes a picture, particularly a facial expression. I'm currently working on a book about Kira's brother Darius. I found a picture of this man...let's just say the man has a great bedroom stare!
Cissy - ?
Sara - happy birthday, princess
O -
Sara - a bedroom stare? hmmm, Shelley
O - Blue or green
SBC_VIXIN_06 - =) thanks
Cissy - Happy Birthday, Gwen!
Lea - is daruis a prince?
ShelleyB - Gwen, it's your birthday? Have a great one!
Cissy - Cissy has the next question (O in line)
Helena - its your B-day ?
Cissy - Shelley, what's your favorite scene from STRICTLY FORBIDDEN?
ShelleyB - Sara, oh. This man has amazing eyes. Eyes really do it for me. Well, that and pectorals.
O - happy birthday Gwen
mary f - Happy birthday Gwen
Sara - and you imagined him?
ShelleyB - Lea, Darius is an earl--and a reluctant one at that.
Sara - hmm, Shelley!
Lea - awwww
Sara - last year as a teenager *sigh*
SBC_VIXIN_06 - lol..two more years until i can drink!
shima - "Get right down to the real nitty-gritty"!
ShelleyB - Cissy, it's got to be the last scene of the book. I won't give it away, but Gavin and Kira both got what they needed and deserved.
O - Was it sex? Shelley
shima - ?
ShelleyB - Sara, I didn't imagine this guy. I found him on the `net.
ShelleyB - O, nope. I'm not the kind of author to put that off to the last scene of the book. In fact, Darius's book is going to be VERY steamy.
Cissy - ooh, guess I gotta read!
Cissy - O has the next question (shima in line)
Sara - and not just the last scene, Cissy!! you must read MORE!!
Ann - *perking up* Really? Darius is going to be VERY steamy? And the title I need to be looking for (and when I am going to be looking for it)??
O - Ok what color are his eyes blue or green
Helena -
Lea - I like steamy
ShelleyB - Ann, I can't tell you title and date yet. We're still trying to work all that out. I'll post it on my website as soon as it's available.
Lea - I would say brown
SBC_VIXIN_06 - bye ladies!! i hope you have a wonderful chat...i have a movie to watch for film class
shima - Shelley, as someone says, "we all get more than we deserve." There must be a book about that somewhere
ShelleyB - O, Darius has hazel eyes, those rich green-gold eyes you can sink into (like my hubby's)
Cissy - Shima has the next question (Helena in line)
ShelleyB - Bye, Gwen. Hope you're enjoying school!
Sara - night, Gwen
Sara -
O - AWWWWWWW how sweet
SBC_VIXIN_06 - i love school!
SBC_VIXIN_06 - bye everyone!!
shima - Shelley, Is it easy to get to the sexy parts for you?
Cissy - Bye Gwen!
Celeste - Night Gwen
O - I wound say yes with her hubby bedroom eye
Lea - well all I need to get back on my own stuff most get ready for the golden heart contest
Lea - night see you tomorrow cissy
ShelleyB - Embarrassingly easy! I don't think about anything except the characters and their wants/emotions when I write love scenes--especially not what my grandmothers will think!
ShelleyB - Lea, good luck with GH!
mary f - night Lea
Cissy - Night, Lea
Lea - night all... thanks shelley entering the paranormal cat
Lea - - from 64.12.96.201 on 9/15 at 9:41pm EST
Cissy - Helena has the next question (no one in line)
Helena - most authors love to read who do you read when you have a few spare minutes
shima - ?
shima - ?
O -
Sara - ?
Cissy - 2 questions, shima?
shima - So is the plotting in a way about building to a climax (pun intended)?
shima - I also would like to know who you read
Cissy - Shima has the next question (O, Sara in line) queue closed
ShelleyB - Like music, I read lots of different things, mostly romance though. I like everything from traditional contemporaries to steamy historicals. Lately, I've been reading Lisa Kleypas, Harlequin Blazes, some Black Lace (erotica). I've got stacks of books to be read! But I don't really have a fave autor.
O - Lisa K is good too
Cissy - O has the next question (Sara in line) queue closed
ShelleyB - Shima, if you're asking if I plot to get them ready for sex, yes. If you're asking if I actually plot the love scene in advance, no. That's something I determine once I get there. Did I answer the question?
shima - Great chat, Shelley! I look forward to reading your novel
ShelleyB - And by ready for sex, I mean emotionally ready.
O - What would you like to write that you han't written before- Time trvel??
ShelleyB - Good luck with your own writing!
ShelleyB - O, well...I've been wanting to try my hand at romantic erotica, so now I'm going to give it a try. No details yet, but I think it's going to be fun. Time travels, while enjoyable, are a hard sell right now. Most publishers perceive them as being "out" with the reading public at the moment.
shima - Yes Shelley, thanks again and good night
Cissy - Sara has the last question
Mac - HOwdy, all
shima - - from 209.214.98.23 on 9/15 at 9:49pm EST
Sara - well, O tried to steal my question, so I will have to ask for more details. You write historicals...steamy ones. What about your background drew you to that subgenre?
ShelleyB - Go easy on me, Sara. I'm in the midst of home rennovations from he!! and I'm pooped. SBC_VIXIN_06 has timed out.
mary f - Hello Mac
Cissy - lol, Shelley - I see you know Sara well
Sara - ah, it wasn't that hard, was it?
Sara - who me?
ShelleyB - I think most writers tend to write the kind of book they most want to read. I'm the same in that respect. We all want to express something in just our way, with our voices and views. In that way, I think we're all unique.
ShelleyB - Hi, Mac
Cissy - Shelley, hard to believe, but we've already run through our hour. Thanks so much for a wonderful chat!
O - Do you have a website?
Cissy - STRICTLY FORBIDDEN sounds wonderful
Sara - true, and those unique voices make for great reading choices.
Ann - Thank you Shelley. I'm definitely picking up STRICKLY FORBIDDEN this week.
ShelleyB - O, I do. www.shelleybradley.com or you can access me from the Writerspace home page.
Sara - thank you, Shelley! Hope the renovations don't bother you too much! keep writing!
Cissy - O! She has one here at Writerspace http://www.shelleybradley.com
Ann - Well, really that should be
ailish - oh i've misssed it
Sara - and remember, she has EXCERPTS!!! get a tease!!
Sara - teases are good!
Helena - nite all
Helena - nite all
ShelleyB - Thanks for spending this time with me, you all. Ann, drop me a line when you've read the book. I'd love to love to hear from you.
ShelleyB - Sara, life will be normal once I have a kitchen floor again. Gosh, I haven't been able to cook for 4 days. What a shame
Ann - OK, I will Shelley.
Celeste - Night everyone and thanks for chatting Shelley
ShelleyB - Bye, all!
